Marguerite Adrain, rural teacher from Surprise Valley in Washington county, will travel Sunday July 26 to Guthrie Center Iowa to join a Iowa Teachers conservation camp near Spring Brook State Park. The Washington soil district pays tuition 17.50 per person for several teachers for three week sessions starting June 14 to study soil water forestry and wildlife conservation and earn five college credits.
Berlin frontiers hardened as barbed wire blocks tighten between sectors. West Berlin plans to distribute 1,000,000 German food parcels to East Germans beginning Monday amid Soviet protests and warnings of sealing the border. Eisenhower plans also provide $15.9 million in food for hungry East Germans.
A demonstration of farm pond construction will be held Monday July 27 on the Frank W. Greiner farm three miles west and one mile north of West Chester. Soil Conservation Service personnel will be on hand at 2 p m to answer questions and point out features for a good pond.
In drought-stricken Texas and Oklahoma heavy rains caused flash floods Friday. Gainesville, Texas saw five to seven inches of rain forcing 25 families from homes. Oklahoma highways faced closures while the Upper Sabine River in East Texas rose toward 17 feet, three feet above flood level.
Walter E Henss 58 died July 23 of a heart attack in St Petersburg Florida. Funeral services set for July 29 at Wayland Methodist Church conducted by Rev Paul Textor. Burial in Wayland Cemetery. A search plane found Lindy Gene Daley 2, missing since morning, but crashed nearby shortly after locating him. Pilot Leroy Reidy and observer Larry Woods survived and guided rescuers to the boy. both were dazed and hospitalized.

The condition of Alvin Kephart, a former injured in a tractor mishap near Washington Thursday afternoon, was described as serious today. Kephart remains at Washington County Hospital.
Mrs O R Thoma receives word of the death in Orange California of her sister Mrs Mabel Ross Fullerton after major surgery. Funeral services are set at the Ainsworth Methodist church Thursday at 2 p.m.

Leonard Bowers, 27, was charged with murder after admitting he struck 81 year old Dale Statler who whistled at a woman in shorts. Statler died later. Bowers said he attacked Statler after leaving a tavern with Jackie Leifke and James de Roos, then left the scene in an old car and turned himself in hours later.

Frederick Brandsmeier 14 of near Waukon was killed when the tractor he drove overturned and crushed him on the family farm east of the town. He was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Brandsmeier and was handling cattle at the time of the accident.
Eight Czechs used a rusty homemade tank to breach the Iron Curtain at daybreak near Waldmuenchener Germany. The vehicle ground through barbed wire and frontier obstacles at about 40 miles per hour before American and German police interdicted it twelve miles into Free Germany at Roetz. The eight men climbed out and sought asylum.
