UN forces near Kaesong clash with communist patrols north of the Injin river and reinforce lines along the Seoul Kaesong highway. Sources note talk of a possible new Red offensive by up to 650000 troops, though ground activity remains limited.
Washington reports that Chinese and North Korean communists proposed a come promise formula acceptable to the United States on troop withdrawal in Korea. Informed sources expect it to shape an armistice agenda, though the troop issue may not require near term mandatory action.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Clyde Spry reports 1950 census shows 50.4 percent of farm land rented, a third straight year of decline. Operator ownership varies by district from 38.4 percent in the northwest to 61.8 percent in the south central, with state average owner-operated gains cited.

The 4 H farm project clubs and FFA members from Washington Keota and Wellman high schools will display livestock at Townsley park. Church Girls 4 H will show work in the Methodist church basement. Builders hoped to erect a show building, but restrictions halted that plan for this year. progress continues toward possible construction within a year.
Washington County Farm Bureau members schedule a sports festival for August 17 starting at 9 AM with games for boys and girls and contests for men and women. A noon picnic dinner will be held and all business and farm bureau members are invited. Further details to follow.
Muriel Collier of Durant will arrive August 15 to assume the county home economist duties in Washington. She recently attended the 4-H girls festival and will help judge at the Junior Achievement Show August 8 and 9, succeeding Mrs. Ruth Vizgers.
Ottumwa residents May Carroll and Doris Micklis, both 20 and from Ottumwa, were killed when a car crashed off a county road near Ottumwa and overturned. The vehicle struck two utility poles, cutting power to nearby homes. Two other occupants, Ton Rugg and Mary Spenser, escaped with minor injuries.

Knowlton Fletcher sustained severe back injuries Friday night when a car driven by Mrs. Fletcher struck the residence at the west end of the visitor area on highway 92 at Cashiebeus Junction. He was taken to Hershey hospital Muscatine for treatment.
Ollie Gene Embry, 22, a former highwayman and bank robber, was placed on the FBI ten most hunted list. He is sought for the Feb 6 Monroe National Bank robbery in Columbia Illinois involving $8,943 and is described as dangerous with firearms.
City Chamber of Commerce hosts new residents from Dutch Creek Valley, including Nick Tines and family at 308 North Avenue C. They are five married children, with trades such as farming, auto repair, and teaching. The Swailes family resides at 720 East Seventy, with Harold Swailes an auto mechanic. The Hixsons, ex-Chicago residents, live at 141% East Third Street. Ward E. Hixson works on body and fender repair. English family, at 609% East Main, includes teacher Thomas E. English and sons Douglas and Robert, previously of Brighton.

George Marmon, a 54 year old railroad worker, received a mandatory life term in North Dakota State Prison less than 24 hours after fatally shooting his 42 year old wife with a 20-20 rifle. He confessed after a Monday night argument over an illegal deer hunt.

Funeral services for Mrs Anna Kos were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Riverside with Rev Laurence Jones presiding. Pallbearers were six grandsons Walter Alvin Elmer and George Sosha Kenneth and Dale Kos. Burial was in Richmond cemetery. Arrangements were by Sorden Adams funeral home.
In NAESONG Korea July 25 UP communist negotiators presented an “interesting” new proposal on withdrawing foreign troops from Korea. Vice Admiral C Turner Joy is to reply by 2 pm tomorrow. The UN and allies reject troop withdrawal as a political issue outside the armistice agenda. The ninth session reported progress on forming an agenda for armistice talks.
San Francisco reports that accordionist Contino known as Handsome Dick pleaded guilty to evading induction into the army last April. Federal Judge Roche ordered two weeks in jail without bail while he studies the plea.
Earl McMurray, 62, a Des Moines service station operator, was treated for burns at Broadlawns General Hospital after a gasoline fill ignited when a bystander lit a match. The explosion occurred last night during fueling of an auto gas tank.

Mrs Doyle Plecker underwent major surgery at Mercy Hospital today at 8 00 a m local time. The procedure occurred in room 339 with medical staff in attendance.
