Tax exemption index would rise with inflation in 1974
Representative Les Aspin introduced a House bill to add a cost-of-living adjustment to personal income tax exemptions starting in 1974. The plan links increases to annual inflation, so a 5 percent rise in 1974 would raise the $750 exemption to $787.50 and adjust each year thereafter to reflect inflation.
