Tehachapi Quake Aftershocks Follow Killer Earthquake

After shocks rattled Tehachapi California as cleanup and rescue continued. The quake left 11 dead and 4 injured with damage estimated at 2000000 dollars. Governor Earl Warren visited and aid pitched in from Red Cross Navy and Marine units.

Funeral rites for Marcus J Hav held at Jones Funeral Home

Memorial service for Marcus J Hav was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home with Dr. Evert Thane presiding. Pallbearers included George Breit Bennbach, George Dobitsan, Stewart, Glen Fuhr, Arthur Wiley and Doe Wollie. Burial followed at Grove Cemetery.

Schedule Life Saving Program At Lake Darling

The Chicagua chapter of the Isaak Walton League plans a National Water Safety Month program at Lake Darling on Sunday July 27 starting at 2:00 pm. Dwight Bramon, Karl Fredricks, and Artemus Brown will demonstrate boating safety, life saving and first aid. Admission is free and the public is invited. swimming and boating will be halted from 2 pm until the exhibition ends.

Mrs Emma W Black Dies After Illness in Washington

Mrs Emma W Black Sr died Monday night at 420 South Avenue following months of illness. Funeral at Sherman’s Funeral Home Wednesday with Rev B Allen of Ottumwa. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Born Keosauqua March 15 1865 to Samuel and Ananda Buckner, she was the first colored child born there and in 1891 married George W Black. Survived by daughter Ruth Mitchell of Washington, brother KE M Buckner Des Moines, one granddaughter, two great granddaughters. She helped establish Shorter Chapel AME and was active in local church affairs.
