The body of Pope Leo XI lies in semi state in the throne room as dignitaries visit to pay respects. Indianapolis July 22 Preparations for the Indiana National Guard annual camp of instruction at the state fair grounds began under Quartermaster General Oran Perry. Supplies tents and camp equipment are moving to the grounds with wagons transporting goods this week. Throughout the camp setup Perry will direct activities and oversee tent erection to ensure readiness when troops arrive.
The report states a headquarters will be set up in front of the administration building with the governor and adjutant general’s offices opposite ensuring central coordination and visibility.
A severe storm swept southwestern Iowa on July 22 bringing heavy wind hail and rain. In Montgomery Alabama July 22 Fletcher Turner, a white man, pleaded guilty in federal court to peonage involving Glenny Helms a negro youth and was fined 1000 dollars after an earlier mistrial. Eddyville Iowa July 22 a fight between horse traders and City Marshal Mellugh left W H St John mortally wounded Harvey Pea shot in the chest Mrs Pea shot in the ankle and McHaugh in the hand.
