Missouri flood claims two more lives in Holden rescue
In northwest Missouri, Edward Calloway and Forrest McKeown, both of Holden, died while trying to rescue an 11 year old Holden boy from floodwaters. The toll rose to seven as more rain threatened, with six rivers flooded, hundreds homeless and $16 million in damages. National Guardsmen guarded Smithville gas tanks after explosions stirred fuel into the 15 foot floodwater.

Jet bombers hit Zone D as 28 Americans die in Viet Nam

Mother and son saved in Iowa City fire
A mother Mrs. Elizabeth Pannos and her 14 year old son Christopher were rescued from a rear bedroom by neighbors Charles Parrot and Jim May after heavy smoke trapped them. Fire officials said both were treated for smoke inhalation at University Hospitals with the mother reported fair and the boy in good condition. The rear of the home suffered extensive smoke damage.
