Iowa's first winter wheat of the year arrived in Des Moines from Dallas Madison and Polk counties and was promptly disposed of by the Des Moines board of trade. The grain sold for less than last year with quotes around 94 cents per bushel compared to 1.04 to 1.06 a year ago.
The American Farm Bureau proposes storing 200000 bushels on farms and using bonded government warehouse loans under the Intermediate Credit Act to stabilize prices. Omaha bankers and farmers back a "buy a barrel of flour" drive inviting housewives to join, while grain centers from St Louis to Sioux City support the plan to curb low prices through cooperative marketing.
A plan seeks a $5 flat freight charge from Sioux City Iowa Superior Wisconsin and Duluth to Minnesota and North Dakota harvest fields. The request targets the Great Northern Northern Pacific and the Minneapolis St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie railways and was announced today in St Paul Minnesota.
