Equality of Farm Policy: Humphrey and Nixon Clash
Vice President Hubert Humphrey and former VP Richard Nixon outline rival and, in parts, overlapping farm policy visions. Humphrey backs Johnson era stabilizers for crops with loans and direct payments to curb overproduction. Nixon hints at major changes to reduce dependency while preserving farm income. Both stress rural modernization and farm exports, with Nixon stressing industry attraction to rural areas and the agricultural sector’s defense of the dollar abroad.
