Construction crews from L. E. Myers Company work along a 500 mile high voltage transmission line project linking St. Louis and Minneapolis. The Washington and Wayland area teams toil under July heat to erect tall poles for the utility corridor.
Construction on the 445000 volt Minneapolis to St Louis transmission line advances in Washington and Wayland areas. L E Myers Co. crews set poles and insulators, with three substations planned and an eventual 550000 kilowatts interchange. The 510 mile line, costing about 36159000, aims for early 1967 operation and connects Northern States Power in Minneapolis with Union Electric in St Louis.
UPI reports rioting across Cleveland's Hough district as Black residents clash with police, burning ten buildings and injuring several. Across Brooklyn and Jacksonville violence erupts amid racial tensions as police and crowds clash. New York City police rush to Harlem to break up youths training drum activities.
Jefferson Iowa Robert K Beck voiced support for the Iowa right to work law part of a Meet Your Candidate event by Greene County Farm Bureau He urged unions to bargain only for their members Beck called for tax restraint on property and a shift to fund schools with 40 percent state aid He noted Iowa property taxes rose by over 20 million annually in the past three years and contrasted with other states.

Gemini 10 astronauts John Young and Michael Collins reached a peak orbital distance of 474 miles aboard a tightly docked mission with Agena 10. A 55 minute spacewalk was planned despite fuel shortages that altered the day’s schedule and kept the vehicles connected nose to nose as officials reassessed further maneuvers.
President Johnson told House and Senate appropriations committees that the nation may face a heavy deficit next year or require a tax increase if Congress keeps approving funds he does not want. He noted last year’s deficit was $2.3 billion smaller than forecast and warned about a potential $6 billion budget rise this year, with additional measures possible and a supplemental war bill in Vietnam anticipated.
The annual Washington County Fair runs July 25 to 28 with 4-H and FFA exhibits. About 150 baby beeves, 40 beef heifers, 60 junior feeder cattle, 40 dairy heifers, 300 purebred and market pigs, 60 sheep, 40 horses, 35 pens of rabbits and poultry will be shown. Judging starts Monday at 11 a.m. and continues through Wednesday. Thursday features a sale and activities. Admisson 50 cents, under 12 free. season tickets $2.00 plus advance ride tickets.
Tipton Iowa UPI reports Republican nominee candidate Schwengel attacked the Johnson administration for denying it may not have all the answers in fighting poverty during a Monday night speech.
William G. Murray pledged to ask the legislature to refund six months of income taxes for 1966 taxpayers who paid 1965 taxes, totaling about 25 million dollars as part of a projected 70 million dollar general fund surplus by June 30, 1967. He criticized Gov Hughes over withholding and said figures should show a larger surplus. Murray spoke at Des Moines and Jefferson with farm bureau backing.
United Press International reports a partly cloudy Wednesday with overnight lows in the 60s. Expect highs in the 80s and a slightly warmer Thursday with a modest chance of scattered thunderstorms.
