Davenport. A divorce petition in Scott County District Court lists George Molle a commercial fisherman seeking $1,000 alimony $100 in fees and title to property from his wife Louise He says he is number seven in her series of husbands and accuses her of cruel and inhuman treatment.
William O'Loughlin 60 president of the People's Trust and Savings bank at Riverside and Edith Godwin 13 drowned when their boat capsized on the Iowa River east of Riverside. Three others were rescued after clinging to a fallen tree and branches. Rescue by Jerry Simmering and Wesley Prehoda ended with one life lost and two survivors hospitalized in exhaustion and shock.
A large audience gathered in Central Park for a Washington congregations union service featuring Rev Milo Phillips of St Pauls Evangelical and Reformed church. The sermon titled Where to Go When Trouble Comes stressed prayer with conviction and God’s deliverance.
Chief Petty Officer C Kim Tidd, 38, formerly of Marshalltown and Des Moines, died July 14 at the Boston Naval Hospital from brain edema. He was en route to a North Atlantic post after being recalled for his sister’s death in Marshalltown. His wife and two sons survive.
Three year old Anne Clark died after her uncle's car backed from a garage onto the front porch area in Nashua. She was taken to Charles City hospital and died Sunday afternoon from head and chest injuries. Anne had traveled with her mother from California to visit relatives and was staying with her uncle Jarl Roth. Her death follows injuries suffered when the car moved as she stood near the porch with bushes obscuring the scene.
The Worth County jury and a state fire marshal investigation into the Friendly tavern blaze last Sunday morning found no RB to report after a full day session. Officials, led by Zack T and Paul B. Hodgson, spent four days in Northwood conducting routine investigative work into the fire.
Eileen Standley eleven daughter of Mr and Mrs C W Standley of near Winterset died Sunday evening in a three car crash. She was pinned to a tree as a parked car in front of a hospital was struck by a northbound car then by a Burlington Trailways bus. Her father had stopped to let her enter the hospital and she was returning when the chain reaction occurred.

Henry Horning 81 died at 10 30 from a stroke sustained last Thursday at the northwest of West Chester home of his daughter Mrs Elmer Vincent. He had been ill for years. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 PM at L A Jones funeral home conducted by Dr F W Eastwood. Interment Elm Grove cemetery. Born Oct 11 1861 south of Talleyrand, he was a son of Martin and Mary Horning. His early life was in Keokuk and Washington counties.
Lincoln officials report an army transport plane crashed in a storm northwest of Lincoln early today. Walter Lange said at least eight may be dead, with the Alliance Nebraska base plane origin. Captain Carroll West stated no death toll could be confirmed, as several unopened parachutes lay near the wreck and next of kin notices are pending.
A county meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary will be held in Crawfordsville on Tuesday evening July 27. Officers will be elected with past county commanders serving as the nominating committee. A large attendance from all county towns is hoped for.
Mrs Bert Steninger age 72 died Friday of a heart attack at her Wellman area home after long illness including a prior stroke. Funeral plans set for Wellman Methodist church with Rev R W Pinnell. burial in Wellman cemetery. She was born Lulu Helen Wade December 19 1870 and married Herbert Steninger in November 1895. Survived by husband six sons Harley Charles Arvid in California Kenneth a dentist Milo an army dentist Delmar osteopath in Wellman, two brothers Alexis and William Wade, three sisters Mrs George Berry Mrs Herbert DeFrante Mrs J E Cur, and four grandchildren.
Announcement by county extension director J W Chandler states the annual boys and girls 4 H club achievement show will be held August 18 and 19 with the Washington Chamber of Commerce assisting. Livestock exhibits set up at the armory and girls exhibits in the Methodist church basement. Isabelle Combs to lead girls division, John Knotek to head livestock division. Family picnic planned for noon on August 19.

Mrs. William C Mayhew aged 73 died at Eagle Rock California. Her body will be sent to Washington for burial with funeral arrangements by Sherman's funeral home still undetermined. She was born May 16 1870 in this community daughter of R D and Ann Dixon McFarlane. She married William Mayhew Feb 26 1894 and lived on a farm near town before moving to Washington twenty years ago. Her husband died four years ago and she then moved to Eagle Rock to live with daughter Mrs Helen Alexander. She is survived by son Rodney Mayhew of Lancaster Pennsylvania two grandchildren and two sisters and two brothers Frank McFarlane Sou of Towner Colorado Blanche Kerr and Mrs W B Kerr. Mrs Mayhew was a member of the local church.
Ford J. Murkin 73 died very suddenly this afternoon at the Lou Meek home. The funeral will be at two o clock Wednesday at L A Jones funeral home. He was a former county roads employee and a member of the Masonic lodge.
