Six bandits robbed the First National Bank of Cherokee after noon, with three entering the bank and three acting as lookouts. They forced cashiers to open the till and fled as a car sped away, leaving about $2000 in another till drawer and sparing roughly $20,660 in vault cash unseen. Police and posses searched area for suspects. Identification may be possible from bank staff and witnesses.

Pilot killed in test flight near Des Moines
Des Moines July 19. Ross Arnold 32 co pilot with Charles Jatschet on the Great Des Moines was killed when the craft crashed during a refueling endurance test. Jatschet parachuted to safety after controls failed. The Miss Sioux City nurse ship was nearby. Amon Arnold brother of Ross witnessed the scene. The crash occurred during a final test before the endurance flight. The plane was badly damaged and Arnold’s body was found beside it. Gatschet landed unharmed aside from scratches. Des Moines aeronautics exposition opened at the municipal airport with thirty planes expected in the "onto Des Moines" race and a state race to follow.
