Camp Dodge to be Abandoned Soon
Des Moines July 19 Camp Dodge will be abandoned as the War Department announces. The Fourth Division will move to Camp Lewis near Seattle, with no dates yet set. General Hines remains in Washington and Brigadier Rabittwill lead in his absence. The state will likely receive the government owned land including camp buildings. Recruits from Iowa will be sent west if they wish to join those regiments, and the move is blamed on slow Iowa recruiting, stalled compulsory training, and cost-cutting.
