Berlin reports that a three month financial dictatorship led by Chancellor Heinrich Bruening replaces the Reichstag after a 236 to 221 vote and dissolves the body. The plan seeks strict budget cuts and new taxes ahead of general elections set for September 14.
Lewis J. Taber, Master of the National Grange, told President Hoover that the Grange will give the Farm Board of the federal government opportunity to address the farm problem. The Grange will not join efforts to revive the equalization fee or debenture relief plan, and Taber said an upturn would come as commodity prices recover.
Ottumwa announces the opening of the Washington miniature golf course east of the Shell station on West Madison Street. Builders W. S. McMickle and R. M. Wise report sloping ground hazards including sand traps and water traps. The course will operate daily from noon to midnight with no play on Sundays.
Three Buffalo gunmen were executed at Sing Sing Prison. Grezcho, Rybarczyk, and Bogdenoff faced the chair after conviction for murder during a hold up. Grezcho spoke of innocence, then lit a cigarette before the electric chair was activated, and he died at 11 06.
Remodeling of the Cunningham building on the square progresses toward a largeMcLellan merchandising space. KF A Stow says opening is tentatively set for Saturday August 9, with fixtures arriving soon and carpenters nearly finished. The basement will store goods and a new steam heating plant will be installed. The manager is a New York headquarters recruit from Indiana.
Chicago July 18 Ag cultural prosperity will follow the harvesting of the 1930 crop, larger than last year. Low prices are general but not confined to farm produce. A $4 500 000 000 era n crop surplus will boost all lines of business, with favorable crop news and hog and cattle markets offering a margin of profit.
Typhoon sweeps Kyushu and surrounding coastal areas causing widespread destruction in Fusan and Nagasaki. Reports say over 400 houses destroyed, multiple ports paralyzed, and ten people killed in Nagasaki as the shrine and school structures collapse.
Gulfport Mississippi July 18 reports on the Indiana murder farm case are ridiculed as a discrepancy in ages emerges. Friends of Mrs James V Smith say she is 57, contradicting earlier accounts of Belle Gunness as the missing Indiana farm owner. Authorities had begun a search after discovering 15 corpses on the Indiana farm and found Mrs Smith absent, having left about a month ago.
The body of Mrs. Gus Mohr, 40, was found in the kitchen of her Holstein Iowa home after a violent attack. A small bore shotgun was fired into her breast and hatchet or knife wounds were used to mutilate her scalp. Her 14-year-old son Lester testified at the coroner's inquest saying he found the scene and reported the crime.
A Colorado and Southern passenger train was wrecked 11 miles south of Trinidad when a rail was removed. Carl Blunck, 35, of Clinton Oklahoma, died later in hospital. Pete Lee, 19, of Paducah Texas, was in critical condition with amputation and multiple injuries. Passengers were injured while riding between locomotive and baggage car.

Featured acts include Randall Players, Elias Tamburitza Serenaders, Rose Garden Four, Oakley Concert Company, Metropolitan Concert Company, Marvel Miller Players, and noted speakers. Season tickets cost $2. programs sell for a few cents.

Last night several carloads followed a red glare seen on the east side of Washington to a large hay fire on the John Krause farm along the old White Way. The hay had spoiled in rain and burned heavily, with flames visible from the concrete road, misled motorists by resembling burning oat shocks nearby.

Chicago July 18 The Chicago forecast office predicts cooler and mostly fair weather in the Midwest for Sunday. Local showers or thunderstorms are likely in the north central states within 36 hours, followed by lower temperatures. Sunday should bring mostly fair, seasonable weather with possible showers in some extreme eastern areas.
Hubert Essley of Philadelphia is spending his vacation at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Werd Essley south of town.
Two county hired men labeled evidence getters were exonerated by a coroner's jury in the death of Harlan Sawdey alias Peterson. Sawdey fired first. the jurors ruled the ensuing gunfire by Skovgaard and Chizek occurred in self defense and while on duty, absolving the agents of responsibility.
Fred Johnson a State Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent assisting Ray Scott in the Sweet Bailey murder case was summoned by Chief James K Ristle to Holstein Iowa to work on another homicide a woman was slain in her home with a shotgun and a hatchet or knife. Johnson formerly Wright county sheriff was taken to Des Moines today by Scott who will confer with Risden then return to Washington. Scott plans to return to the local case tomorrow morning. Peacock of Anamosa is held in the Washington county jail as part of the probe with no arraignment date set. Investigators have pursued tips and checked multiple angles across eastern Iowa. Scott has no new alibi updates.
In Washington a stormy Senate session centered on the London naval pact. Senator Johnson of California accused colleagues of ignorance and declared unfitness for silence. Senator Smoot of Utah urged delaying tactics while Senator Moses of New Hampshire condemned the treaty and signaled opposition.
Announcement of Senator George W. Norris withdrawal from the Republican primary and bid for reelection as an independent was expected within 24 hours in Nebraska. A local grocer named Norris filed as an opponent, creating ballot name confusion and forcing a ruling on how to proceed before midnight.
The temperature reached 100 in Washington at 2 15 pm marking the warmest day of the year so far. Earlier the high stood at 98 after 1 pm with 97 noted yesterday and 90 on Wednesday. A light breeze kept conditions pleasant despite the heat, and temperatures may rise slightly before nightfall.
