Air Force Maj. Bob White became America's first winged astronaut by piloting the X-15 to about 58.7 miles above Earth. The seven flight marked a record for a fully pilot controlled craft with a top speed nearing 3,784 mph. postflight computations will be updated by NASA and the FAA.

B. B. Lintner, 98, died at his home near Letts Sunday. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 2 pm in Letts Methodist Church with burial in Letts Cemetery.
