Memory, birds, and a witty professor ponder forgetfulness
In a July 16 1971 Washington Iowa Evening Journal column readers are treated to a blend of humor and reflection. The piece quips about a martins family occupying a birdhouse and ponders memory theory through psychologist Robert A Bjork. It wryly notes how efficient remembering relies on forgetting and cites a university memory study. The essay frames the human memory as selective and practical, illustrated by a campus ichthyologist who cannot recall his students' names.
