Big business in eating out says Bank of America study
A two year Bank of America survey concludes the food service industry totals 27 billion dollars at retail annually. Eating and drinking places top U S retail outlets, outnumbering groceries and gas stations, with Americans spending 400 to 500 dollars per person annually eating out. Half of U S restaurants show no taxable profit, and about 20 percent of retail failures come from eating and drinking places each year. Only half of food service operations keep the same ownership for five years or more. Success hinges on treating the business as a manufacturing process, managing staff, and prioritizing profit. In Canberra, Australian auto makers urge reduced import limits to protect local production.
