Oskaloosa Herald reprints Mrs Alice A Conklin letter dated January 2 1892 to J E Hoops Co Muscatine pleading not to demand payment from her ill husband who was accused of killing her in 1805 but acquitted later. Also notes cool morning for biking and early rides as streets bustle with bicyclists.
Washington county begins transcribing fifty seven year old land records to preserve them as originals fade. Recorder Tom Allen leads the effort alongside Kyle and J A Y Ashby while new plat books and revised read books prepare for future use. In a separate note, Rev Williamson reports a robbery at his Keokuk home with valuables taken including a gold watch.
The obituary notes the death of Mrs Mary M Smith wife of Nicholas Smith at 6 30 am in West Washington after six weeks illness. Born Mary Craig in 1825 she lived in Ohio and Iowa before settling in Washington, and leaves a husband four daughters two grandchildren and four surviving siblings. Funeral details and religious faith are emphasized. Also reports the death of Win Snider a south Washington resident and former farmer aged about 65. Burial arrangements place him in Kalona after a brief illness and paralysis.
The bulletin lists a forecast for Iowa with tonight partly cloudy and Friday warmer with showers in the far southwest. In social news Mrs Josanna Stead and John Wilkerson wed quietly at the John Bergquist home with Rev Catlin officiating. Residents of Fairfield attend, while local notices mention oats quality, an old apple tree removed for new home construction, and several city visitors and gatherings.
