Rev Kerr U P Home Head Named in Washington

The Rev George P Kerr former pastor of Marion Avenue United Presbyterian Church was named Thursday evening as superintendent of the U P Home in Washington D C He will take over from W T McIntyre who has led the home for 11 years and will assume management after January The Kerr family plans to move permanently in July and the home currently houses 75 residents with 19 cottages built and more under construction.

Fire Damages Bank Building at Columbus Junction

A Thursday evening blaze at the Columbus Junction State Bank building damaged two upstairs apartments and two ground floor offices. The bank rooms remained untouched as firefighters confined the fire to upper units. The Glenn Hawkins and Harry Hanft apartments were involved, with offices of William Fulton and Dr. JackThatcher affected by smoke and water. Insurance covered the building, but damage estimates were not available.

Weather Outlook for Iowa Five Day Forecast

United Press International reports partly cloudy conditions in Iowa through Saturday with widely scattered thundershowers northwest to night and north Saturday. Temperatures will rise from the 60s at night to highs in the 80s to near 90s across the state. The five day outlook shows near normal average temperatures through Wednesday, gradual warming, then cooler by Tuesday or Wednesday. Precipitation expected from .25 to .50 inch locally near an inch due to intermittent showers.
