In Los Angeles 18 year old Joan Garrison said she boarded the U S S Los Angeles with a dare after clipping her hair to impersonate a sailor. She was discovered and held on charges of illegally wearing a military uniform with bail set at 1000 dollars.

Mrs. Peck outlined duties of local volunteers and parental consent rules stressed each donor must be 18 or older with 18 to 21 year olds bringing signed parental consent to the United Presbyterian church headquarters.
Edward E. Richard 55 longtime resident of a farm near Wayland died Tuesday evening July 14 at Mercy hospital Iowa City after a long illness. He was born January 2 1898 on a Wayland area farm son of Michael and Lydia Rich. He married Hazel Sutton December 27 1922 in Washington and lived near Wayland on the same farm. He belonged to Eicher Mennonite church. Survivors include his wife two brothers Dave and Will Richard of Wayland two sisters Mrs H F Eicher Wayland and Mee J Widmer Washington plus nieces and nephews. Preceded by parents and one brother. Funeral from family home southeast of Wayland Friday at 2 pm Rev J J Prichard Wayland in charge. Interment Woodlawn cemetery. Jones funeral home in charge.
M S Hochstedler 79 died at his farm home four miles north of Kalona Tuesday afternoon. Services Friday at the family home with Yoder Funeral Home in charge. Burial in Gingerich cemetery. Born Oct 7, 1873 in Johnson county son of Sam and Anna Miller Hochstedler. Lived in Johnson county his life, farmer retired. Married Dec 9, 1897 to Savilla Yoder. She died five years ago. Survivors include four daughters Mrs Noah M Yoder Mrs Chris H Miller Mrs Lloyd Yoder Kalona and Mrs Simon Schlabach Parnell Ia. Three sons Sylvan Ezra Kalona Menno Sarasota Fla.
