An advertisement proclaims Hall's Catarrh Cure as the only positive cure for catarrh, a constitutional disease. It claims internal action on blood and mucous surfaces, offers 100 dollars for any unsolved case, and lists Toledo based F. J. Cheney & Co. as makers with 75 cent price. Also notes Magnetic Nerveine tonic sold by E. N. Foster.
In Chicago and Kensington, Deputy Marshals and a youth named Andrew Gregory were fatally wounded when torpedoes blew on Illinois Central tracks. Witnesses say deputies fired at fleeing men amid conflicting accounts. Five deputies were arrested. In Cn Hicano Patrick Eugene Prendergast was hanged for Mayor Harrison's assassination after a lengthy, solemn proceeding. The execution occurred at 11:48 am with Prendergast pronounced dead after the trap fell.
Dun and Co weekly trade review reports strong and sound business over the past two weeks with unusually small shrinkage and few failures and signs of recovery in some industries. In Monmouth the local presbytery relayed relief for Rev. J G Stewart who was suspended for teaching faith care doctrines. Stewart is known for revival meetings last winter. In Denver arrangements bond a Colorado hunting trip for President Cleveland and others with a bear hunt hoped in the Glenwood Springs mountains.
The senate passed last evening the bill authorizing construction of a bridge across the Mississippi River at DuBuque Iowa.
Jay Bear of Washington began Tuesday from Wellman with a livery team and broke a buggy. He borrowed another rig to reach Katona, then drove to Riverside for the circus. On the return trip he upset the buggy at Myers corner, was thrown out, the buggy badly smashed, and he escaped unharmed though the trip was costly.
Kalona News notes the start of a telephone line project from Iowa City to Washington via Kalona. The county is cut with wires while this county lacks service. The paper urges other towns to join in and keep the push moving.
News notes plans to issue a yellow card for bake shop pickup. Amos Alberson delays to Topeka for Royal Arab Masons. A city council petition seeks public watering troughs at water mains ends to aid stock and wells. Proposes air lift pump to boost capacity from 120000 to 1000000 gallons daily.
