This week Wednesday a Washington delegation travels to Des Moines to place in nomination candidates for state offices including secretary auditor treasurer attorney general supreme court judge railroad commissioner and electors. There are contests for secretary railroad commissioner and supreme judge with thirteen aspirants for the last. Major McKinley invited to attend the convention. A wreck near Schott’s harness shop injures Mr and Mrs Alex Miller but their car stayed on the rail. The C R I L P will sell state Republican convention tickets with a round trip fare. A reunion of Academy class of ’96 held at Miss Tina Shields home Saturday evening with pleasant time reported. Mr and Mrs J J Weldin returned from Crawfordsville Saturday night.
Burglars entered multiple homes between 1 and 3 am in Washington, targeting the Scranton, McGugin, Wilson, Hull, and Rork households. Items stolen or disturbed included a chair, milk, a cake, clothing, a watch, a hypodermic syringe, and papers. No clues found. Sheriff Teeter notified. Also reported are a meat market sale and a minstrel ticket notice, plus obituary notice for Rev. T. A. Wylie.
July weather forecast for Iowa includes tonight partly cloudy and cooler with local rain in the west. In Sigourney a horse buyer was robbed of 2500 dollars between depot and city. Social events include Miss Vera Rogers’ ninth birthday party and numerous town residents visiting Coppock and Davenport. Notices mention missing topaz, wedding anniversary, a bicycle parade planning, and a ball game with Wellman.
A pleasant Saturday evening dance at Phoenix drew lovers of the pleasure with several out of town visitors in attendance. The event offered a lively social gathering in a cordial, festive mood.
The Union summer evening proved very successful with a large enthusiastic audience at the Baptist church. Rev. Chaffee, a Pella University student, delivered an able sermon enhanced by music, rewarding attendees. At Clifton's tee house, a theft occurred as culprits attempted to steal tea blocks, observed by Dot Hollingsworth of the water works.
