The Reflector in Pendleton Indiana ignored the July 1 riot at the Indiana Reformatory in which nine injuries occurred. The only reference was a sports item noting a baseball game was interrupted by unforeseen circumstances.
Nassau County detective chief Pinell disclosed that the note demanding $2,000 ransom for baby Peter Weinberger was signed Your baby sitter. The eight sentence missive suggested a local writer familiar with the family and left no pickup instructions. The FBI will examine the note as handwriting experts weighing age and sex of the writer remain inconclusive.
London papers detail alleged remarks by Khrushchev insulting small nations and France, with Bulganin reportedly drunk and helped to his car. Nigel Birch and Gen. Nathan Twining criticized. party described as typical for Western air force readers.

Each firm entered a spring boar and a spring gilt with Knotek also entering a bred gilt and a pen of three gilts. The ninth National Duroc Congress is sponsored by the United Duroc Record Association with the University of Kentucky and the Kentucky Duroc Breeders Association. More than 250 head from 13 states will compete for over 4000 dollars in prize money.
Major William Perdock announced that the 394th Ordnance Battalion and the 872nd Ordnance Company have completed moving and are now permanently housed in the Army Reserve Training Center on North Marion. Offices are ready in the upstairs front section and reserve meetings are underway. New equipment for the battalion is arriving and new lockers have been installed.
Funeral services for Arthur Dalin who died Wednesday morning will be held Saturday at 2 pm in the Beardsley Funeral Home Chariton Iowa. Dalin had been ill for two years and is survived by his wife.
Danny West ten months old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan West of Washington, was severely burned Wednesday when hot grease from a deep fat fryer spilled on him as he watched his mother in their home. He is listed in satisfactory condition at Washington County Hospital with burns on the hand arm shoulder and hip after the fryer toppled when its cord pulled. Mrs. West formerly Virginia Been blossom.
Don Proudfit presented the program for the Kiwanis Club meeting, sharing historical background on muskets pistols and other firearms in his collection. He displayed pieces and spoke about their origins during a noon session at the lodge.

President Eisenhower will travel to San Francisco in August to accept the Republican nomination for a second term with Richard Nixon as probable running mate. GOP Chairman Leonard Hall outlined Nixon’s No. 2 spot and a vigorous media led campaign, with events planned across the West and five to six TV addresses.
Five college students will spend July 21 to 28 in Washington conducting a Methodist Youth Caravan. They will run workshops and youth sessions for ages 12 and up and offer programs for adults directing youth activities at the local church. Caravaners include Bob Taylor David Sillman Margaret Jewell Gantz Ruth Jones and Wilma Snare. The opening event is a 6 30 p.m. potluck supper Saturday at the church.
Washington County farmers with insured corn under Federal Crop Insurance are urged to release insured acreage before using it for any other purpose including Soil Bank participation. Local agent C W Rademaker says releases are available on request. releases do not affect insurance indemnities if policy requirements are met.
Muscatine Iowa city officials ordered ferry operator George Mason to discontinue his service after the Levee Improvement Commission revoked his franchise. Mason tore up the notice and told police to take it back to the mayor, while about 55 passengers signed a four trip paper praising the service.
In Milan an Italian mother of seven burned herself at the stake amid illness and religious fervor. Police closed the case clearing her husband of murder, noting cancer and a desire for sainthood drove her to martyrdom.

Iowa farmers have signed up an average of 16 acres per farm in the soil bank acreage reserve phase. Officials estimate Iowa payments this year at 18 to 20 million dollars with total program payments over 16 million. From 30 to 60 percent of Iowa farmers may join before the July 20 deadline. Livestock producers were advised to focus on meat production rather than prize ribbons.
The Iowa Tax Study Committee approved forcing districts to reorganize into 12 grade systems by July 1 1962 with districts of at least 500 students.
