May Call on Legislature Says Blue
Gov. Robert Blue announced he would call a special session of the Iowa legislature if Congress does not act on rent control by July 31. He expects Congress to pass a bill but doubts President Truman’s veto risk and notes a banking committee delay. He warned eviction notices would expire month end and instructed the attorney general to draft a rent control bill for a possible session. Landlords deserve reasonable increases, he said, criticizing OPA as inflating housing prices.
