Kinyon Faces Murder Charge in Farmhouse Slaying
Donald Kinyon 27, paroled to Thomas Vincent Batey’s farm, will be charged with murder in the fatal bludgeoning of 60 year old Batey near Maquoketa Iowa. Batey’s wife Mabel 63 was beaten but survived. Kinyon held on $10000 bond after an assault charge.

United Press International reports six Iowa fatalities over the weekend including three drownings of boys from Montpelier and Des Moines and three traffic deaths. Plane crash lands in wheat field after emergency
In Amarillo Texas Continental Airlines Viscount II crash landed on a harvested wheat field after takeoff. Pilot Larry Lauratis and co pilots Ed Gorman and Linda Howard guided passengers to safety. One Man Injured In Local Accidents In Washington
City police investigated three weekend auto crashes in Washington. Dale Kerr suffered fractured ribs and abrasions when his car struck a tree on East Van Buren Street. Two other collisions caused $100 damage each with no injuries. Kerr faces charges of failure to have his car under control.

One Teenager Is Held Two Sought for Thefts
A teenager was arrested and two fled on foot after a car tire blew while police closed in on burglars. Paul Hanson, 18, of Independence, was held. Bob Smith, 18, and Larry Gorm, 19, both of Independence, are at large. Cash and merchandise valued about 30 dollars were taken from three Masonville area businesses.

Y Campers Return From Minnesota Wilderness Trip
A group of 12 Washington youths and two adults completed a week in northern Minnesota under the Washington YMCA. They canoe two days along the Canadian border near West Bearskin Lake and camp near Minogyn Camp operated by Minneapolis YMCA. YMCA Des Moines Trip Sees Youths Signed For July
The annual YMCA outing from Washington travels to Des Moines on Saturday July 14 with seven youths already registered and seven to eight more expected before the Thursday signup deadline. They will tour the state house and state historical museum eat at the Des Moines YMCA and visit the KRNT-TV studio before returning in the evening. Bob Gillesby will join as chaperone. A Chicago weekend trip August 4–5 is planned with a baseball game, costing 10.50 dollars per youth, while Des Moines costs 2.50 per youth.

Barn Fire After Thunderstorm Near Brighton
