Representative Martin Dies attacked Texas for seeking federal relief while warning against repeated handouts but said he would support the drought relief measure. Representative Leon Gavin joined in objections as the plan would create a large government loan program for farmers and ranchers in drought areas. Approval was expected but must await Senate differences before sending to President Eisenhower.

Fifty-one Washington county 4-H members will tour Goshen county Wyoming on July 18 to 29 as part of a youth exchange. The group leaves at 6 45 a m July 18 by two chartered buses stopping in Kearney Nebraska and Torrington Wyoming. They will stay with host families in Goshen county visiting farms with ranch and irrigation operations and learn about crops such as sugar beets potatoes and edible beans. Expenses are about 36 dollars funded by the 4 H members, with chaperones Herbert Campbell Bill Gamon Mrs Kenneth Ornduff and Mr and Mrs T A Robb.
Four H members who will take the exchange trip to Wyoming later this month will attend an orientation meeting next Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Farm Bureau building. Parents will attend. The meeting has been changed from Tuesday to Wednesday evening.

Vern A. Yeggy pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in district court this morning. Judge J. G. Patterson fined him 300 dollars, set a 500 dollar appeal bond, and suspended his driver’s license for 90 days.
In Des Moines early today masked bandits attempting a second hold up were thwarted by watch shop owner James Ritchey. Ritchey grabbed a .38 pistol after a scuffle with one bandit wielding a rifle, fired at the second, and the attackers fled. Police suspect the same pair may be involved in a prior Tuesday night attempt.
Washington county Farm Bureau women are chosen to take an exhibit to the state fair with the topic Color In The Home. A meeting is set for Friday July 10 at 2 p m in the Farm Bureau building with Mrs June Brown extension home furnishing specialist. Committee members include Mrs John Skubal Mrs Wilber Thompson Mrs Herbert Campbell Mrs Raymond Whislet and Mrs Keith Stewart.

District Judge M D Van Oosterhout ruled a 1936 will invalid that created a trust for two Boston terriers. He set aside the charitable bequests and said the estate, valued at 25 000 to 30 000 dollars, should pass to relatives.
The agriculture department announced it bought 5,250,500 pounds of beef this week to bolster cattle prices in the southwest drought area. It paid about $1.9 million for 4,562,500 pounds of canned beef and gravy at 37 cents a pound and 688,000 pounds of ground beef at 35 cents. The 10,000,000 pounds per week goal was not reached as offerings were priced above market.
