State Board to Hear Nine Cities on Stream Pollution
Des Moines July 9 Hearing orders will be issued this week with hearings starting this month as Dr D C Steelsmith, Iowa state health commissioner, defends a persistent policy to eradicate stream pollution. He says action will not be rushed and may take three to five years, urging public attention to the pollution problem and possible sewage plants costing about seven million dollars.

C D Chandler Hurt After Midian Fourth of July Incident
C D Chandler of Packwood father of Mrs J Z Hinshaw and Ward Chandler of Washington suffered back and head injuries when struck by a car near Packwood on the Fourth of July night. He was brought to the Hinshaw home Tuesday night and is slowly improving. Witnesses say a fallen pole with a red warning light near the celebration area contributed to the danger as Chandler tried to reset the light. Mrs Chandler remains with him for an extended stay.

Edwards to Face Murder Charge in Tama Case
James Silver Jim Edwards aged 70 was in Des Moines jail awaiting action by the Iowa Bureau of Investigation. Bureau chief Risden said Edwards would be taken to Tama to face murder charges later this week. Edwards led the Burns gang that plundered Iowa from 1910 to 1913 and was recently released from Nebraska prison after a seven year robbery sentence.

Former Senator Shot Self in Houston Home Death
R L Henry a 67 year old former congressman and last election U S Senate candidate died from a pistol wound at his Houston home. He was found in his bathroom unconscious with a pistol nearby after a period of ill health. The report notes his death followed the gunshot in the residence. Reg Robbins and Harold Jones failed to complete their Seattle to Tokyo nonstop attempt. Dense fog and rain forced a landing at Solomon near Nome after 1,900 miles of a planned 5,100 mile journey. The Fort Worth monoplane landed at 3:50 am local time, as the tri motor mothership waited above. Russell Frink, division main tenance engineer for the state highway commission, will assume maintenance of the Muscatine to Montezuma primary road through the county.
