The Washington County 4 H and FFA fair runs August 3 to 6 at the fair grounds. Events include a stage show opening Aug 3, a pony pulling contest Tuesday afternoon, a beauty contest at 8 p m, a tractor pull at 2 p m Wednesday with a watermelon feed, Municipal Band concert at 6 30 p m and parade of champions at 7 30 p m followed by the John Morrell Chorus of Ottumwa. Thursday features the annual horse show at 7 p m and a skating rink dance at 9 p m. Season tickets and carnival ride books are sold at the extension office.

Five Million Dollar Rise From Liquor By The Drink law
Des Moines reports the liquor by the drink law boosted state revenue by 5.263 million in its first year from July 1 1963 to June 30 1964. Tax on drinks, license sales, and increased liquor sales drove totals, with $3.075 million from the 10 percent tax and $1.776 million from licenses.
