A runaway horse team driven by 8. D. Asher collided with a cultivator tractor driven by Emery Wapello-Emery Asher on a highway near the corn field. Both machines were badly damaged and Emery sustained bruises and deep cuts from the crash.
Davenport Fair distribution of work among the 15 participating dentists and a small net return for their services are sought by the Scott County Dental Society in negotiations with the board of supervisors for a new indigent patient care contract at a flat rate of 500 dollars monthly.
Dr W S Sealock, ousted as president of Omaha University, died by suicide Sunday night in the presence of Paul Martin, former regent. The 66 year old educator, once a professor at Iowa State, used a deadly poison after a dispute over his dismissal and salary of 9000 dollars a year. He had fought to keep the post and urged the regents to publish the reasons for their action.
Elam Johnson Walter Conner Walter Schroeder and H G Richardson of Washing to have qualified as old age pension investigators. They recently took the examination for this work at Mt Pleasant and have just received notice that they passed the tests.
Mrs Cora Dunsmore will lead a public library book review of George Doran’s Chronicles of Barabbas at 10 tomorrow morning. Librarian Eva Denny says all interested may attend. the series has run for several months, usually on the second Tuesday morning.
Five armed pirates boarded the gambling ship Mone Carlo off Long Beach at five in the morning and forced crew to open the safe, escaping with $32,000 in cash. The robbers wore stockings over their heads, and the gang fled in a small white power boat after taking gamblers to shore earlier in the day.

The funeral of Mrs J A Walker 79 who died at her home near West Chester yesterday afternoon will be held Tuesday at 2 30 pm at the West Chester Methodist church Rev P B Gray and Rev A W McBlain will officiate Burial will be in West Chester cemetery Arrangements are by L A Jones funeral home Mrs Walker a lifelong Washington county resident suffered a paralytic stroke four weeks ago and died at 1 30 pm yesterday She and her husband lived on a farm near West Chester since their 1876 marriage nearly 59 years They were among the longest married couples in the Journal's Three Quarter Century club She was born Martha Jane Dayton Dec 6 1855 in West Chester She is survived by her husband three children Cassius Crossett Wellman Carl Hering south of Washington and Joe Walker Des Moines eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren Two sisters and one brother also survive Lettie Hutton Des Moines Cordelia Helm Waterloo and Albert Dayton Central City She belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church Pythian Sisters Merry Mixers and Sew and So club.
Judge Dr Hamilton who presided a day session of district court Saturday fixed August 2 for another day of court. He will return to Washington to handle any court business presented by Washington attorneys. The Saturday session issued several miscellaneous orders mainly in the probate calendar.
Negro, named Roy Williams, suffered a slight side wound when a rifle bullet crashed through a window and struck him as he lay on a bed in his home. The shot appeared fired from distant, with minimal remaining force.

A July 5 hit and run near Wellman left Lester W. Sederlund fatally injured. Sheriff Lutnam said no new evidence identified the automobile or driver. Sederlund died Friday at Washington County Hospital after a basal skull fracture. The coroner's jury found death caused by being struck on Highway No 81, one mile south of Wellman Iowa, with no evidence of the driver.
