Iowa crop prospects look solid amid rains and weeds
Early July crop outlook in Iowa remains favorable with adequate moisture aiding corn and soybeans. Heavy rains caused weed growth and slowed haying while topsoil erosion and damage from downpours affected western regions. Corn has advanced beyond knee high, with some tasseling, and borer pressure appears rising. brown stem rot threatens beans, potentially cutting yields by a third. Leaders in Iowa FFA receive honors and long-time service recognitions at Des Moines meetings.
