Fashionable summer styles at Newport and Bar Harbor
Fashionable society proves brisk luxury with Directoire silhouettes, long clinging skirts, short waists, and Parisian gowns. Notable outfits include a pale pink linen gown with embroidery and a Directoire coat, a natural pongee Empire dress with ecru lace, and coordinated pale blue accessories. Tailor suits rise for yachting, bathing suits trend toward princess styling with corsets, and matching hats, caps, belts, and shoes dominate seaside attire. Pearl jewelry dominates the season with large earrings and La Valibre pendants. Lucy Carter.
