Kiwanis hears of area egg production expansion plans

Jim Rich of Yoder Feeds Inc told Kiwanis members about Iowa egg industry revitalization. Iowa led the nation with 17 million laying hens in 1954 but dropped to nine million. 500000 layers expected locally with a potential rise to one million. A farmer owned cooperative near Frytown will house 600000 birds across six to twelve houses, with Yoder supplying management and marketing. Eggs are produced in wall to wall chicken houses with conveyors, machine and human checks, and minimal odor due to pits and ventilation. Frytown markets eggs nationwide, mainly to the east. The group plans a Chicago baseball trip next Wednesday to see the White Sox and Yankees, with county fair plans and trips by Kiwanians and friends.
