Cedar Rapids man dies in jalopy derby crash at Hawkeye Downs

Firecracker Blast Burns Two Boys in Spencer
Two 14 year old Royal boys Calvin Jesperson and Billy Long were hospitalized in Spencer with first to third degree burns after a firecracker they lit and tossed into a keg of blasting powder exploded. Drowns as Pool Swim Ends in Story City Tragedy
In Story City, 14 year old Don Mackey drowned at a private Lake Comar pool while swimming with 12 year old Robert Fletcher. A pulmotor from Ames arrived but could not revive him. Don is the son of Mrs. Glen Mackey. His father died in a drowning July 4, 1935 on the Des Moines river.

Richland Youth Injured in July Fourth Collision
Joseph Riordan sixteen of Richland was treated at Washington county hospital for neck and knee injuries after a collision on primary road 81 two miles south of Wellman about 2 50 this morning. His brother George Riordan’s car struck a parked vehicle owned by John Zihlman of Fairfield causing minor damage. No other injuries were reported and damage totaled 50 to 75 dollars. This was the county's only highway accident during the holiday period.
