Poultry houses barber shops lumber yards grocery stores and other businesses close. Pfc Harold Yeoman Seriously Wounded in Mindanao Action
Mrs Vera Gregory of Ottumwa learns her brother Pfc Harold Yeoman was seriously wounded in action on Mindanao island on June 3. He has been overseas since September 1942 and served in major South Pacific campaigns. His unit earned the Presidential Unit Citation. He has two brothers in service, Frank in China and Homer in Germany.

War heroes return and POW reunions documented
Lt Warren Lins, son of Mr and Mrs Will Lins, has arrived home from overseas service. Lt Tins, bas ed in Italy, was a prisoner of war for many months and among the last to be liberated. His wife lives on East Jefferson street. Lt Arthur Hunger of Reverington, recently home from Stalag Luft I after captivity since November 26, 1943, visited the Lewis Coon home Sunday afternoon.

Washington July 2 The navy announced American submarines have sunk 19 more Japanese vessels and a British submarine destroyed a 10 000 ton enemy cruiser in the southwest Pacific.
