Labor turmoil rocks new U S Postal Service amid talks
The semi independent U S Postal Service began operations facing labor tensions as 750 000 workers lack a contract while seven unions seek a 30 percent raise. An all night session yielded progress but talks paused for a week and the possibility of a strike looms despite illegality. A first wage offer was described as a good tone though details were not disclosed. Dr Wm H Kettlitz was named moderator of the Iowa Synod at Ames and presides at the next annual meeting set for June 7 to 9 at Wartburg College with representatives from Washington and others in attendance.
