Franklin County led Iowa in the fifth war loan drive with 112 percent of its quota. Franklin County investors put $1,005,653 into bonds by June 26 against a $898,000 target, according to state war finance committee members.

Patricia Edwards 4 Dies in Alliance Nebraska

Patricia Ann Edwards four year old daughter of Merle and Julia Huffstatler Edwards died yesterday in Alliance Nebraska after a week of illness. Funeral services will be held in Washington with the funeral party arriving this afternoon. She was born October 16 1939 in Washington. Transfer for Lt Voorhees to 9th Air Forces HQ

Strong Air Support in Normandy

British forces pressed toward Caen in the Caen pocket with heavy air support and repelled several German counterattacks as Rommel allegedly led the operation. German commander Dollmann was reported killed as Allied forces pushed in Italy and the Adriatic flank while Saipan battles intensified with mounting American casualties.
