Option on Barn Sealed for Cavalry Unit in Washington Plan
Major B. B. Lambert and Capt. Bat Simerman secured an option on a large cement barn on North Iowa avenue tied to Harry Whit Maker’s feed yard. The facility would house 48 stalls, hay space, and adjoining quarters for the troop’s horses and gear, with 32 mounts provided by the government. A pavilion site on East Third Street was initially considered, but the North Marion avenue barn appears superior. Col. R. P. Howell travels to Washington to advocate. The unit’s recruitment continues as locals balance work and the effort to reach the required number.
