Secretary of State John Hay died at 12 25 a m at his summer home on Sunapee Lake New Hampshire from a pulmonary embolism after a day of satisfactory improvement. Mrs Hay and doctors Scudder and Murphy were at his bedside when he passed away after bidding good night.
In Odessa a tense day ends with Admiral Kruger forcing surrender of the Kniaz Potemkine after a display by five battleships and torpedo craft. Mutineers yield under threat of being sunk as Russian civilians observe the battle-ready harbor. The armistice talks in Manchuria also surface, with leaders Lineviteh and Oyama named.

Seven buffaloes stampeded at Owosso Michigan during Pawnee Bill’s unloading. Four bolted across the circus grounds while three headed toward South Washington Street. A posse with lariats captured them after causing panic among men women and children.

New York report says a physician was dismissed after branding the word Faker across a man's chest in a hospital incident. The case centers on alleged patient abuse and professional misconduct during treatment.
General Hugh Boyle Ewing a West Point graduate and son of Senator Thomas Ewing died at his Lancaster home at 79. He served as major in the Ohio volunteers at Civil War start, rose to colonel of the Thirteenth Ohio, later brigadier general, brevet major general, and was named minister to The Hague by President Johnson.
Government inspector from Dayton visited Brinkle Reading brewery makers of Bishop beer in Xenia Ohio. Beer was seized when owners chose to forfeit the product rather than pay the required tax. Receivers have held the brewery for months.
Buttom Call of Montpelier Ohio broke 17 of 20 targets in the final twenty shots but tied none with R R Barber of Paulina Louisiana who earned the diamond medal with a 98 of 100 in the Grand American handicap shoot setting a record for the annual event though the article notes Call was unable to surpass Barber’s score.
Springfield Illinois July 1 The executive boards of the Illinois Coal Operators association and of the United Mine Workers will meet in Springfield on July 6 to settle wages for shot firers and working conditions. Illinois mines will close after July 1 until an agreement is reached.

A private telegram from Odessa says five ironclads of the Black Sea fleet have mutinied upon arrival. In St Petersburg officials show indifference as subordinates admit they know little of events in Odessa.
John D. Rockefeller has given $10,000 to the General Education Board, a congress chartered institution. Engineer Wallace will not be employed by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company of New York, per Perry Belmont. In Paris, word is that progress is satisfactory in resolving the Moroccan question.
