Iowa corn yield contest climbs over decades
The Iowa Crop Improvement Association reports steady rises in contest yields over nearly 40 years. Top winners averaged 151 bushels per acre in 1938–47, 167 in 1948–57, 174 in 1958–67, and 194 in 1968–76. Eldon Prybil of Iowa City set a 209.82 bushels per acre record in 1976, surpassing the 202.79 bushels per acre mark by William Tolander of Winfield achieved five years earlier.

After a four month pause the Washington Concert Association resumes with two February concerts. This Sunday February 6 at 3 p.m. cellist Roger Drinkall will present a solo recital in the Community Center followed by Mac Frampton Jazz group on Monday February 28 at 8 p.m. Drinkall has performed over 300 concerts in 22 countries with tours in Europe and appearances with multiple orchestras.
