New York Verdict Sets Record in Barnes v American China
A jury awarded Thurlow Weed Barnes 381,666 in a suit against the American China Development Company, the largest NY supreme court verdict of its kind, on coal concession claims dating to 1898 and alleged repurchase by China for 6.5 million. The suit sought 900,000. The list of defendants includes prominent figures and firms such as Henry W Cannon, Stillman, Ryan, Parson, Schiff, Belmont, and Johnson.
