Eisenhower signs Formosa defense resolution with united resolve

President Eisenhower signed the Formosa defense measure asserting American unity to aid a brave ally and resist Communist aggression. He said it preserves peace in the Formosa area and authorizes armed force if needed to defend Formosa and the Pescadores, backing a United Nations effort to end hostilities.

Doctor Droz Dies in California Formerly Lived Here

Friends in Washington learned of the death of Dr. A Keith Droz a former resident and surgeon. He died at a Long Beach California hospital January 23 after a long illness. Rosary will be Monday at Van Nuys home with interment in California. Survived by wife Ruth Anderson and two sons Keith and John a sister Mrs Virginia Kistner. He served in the Navy during 1942 commanded a mobile hospital unit on Guam. Born June 24 1902 in Keota Iowa.

Davenport Woman Beaten in Grocery Holdup

In Davenport two men robbed Elliot's Grocery on the east city limits injuring owner Ethel Elliot 55 and customer Emma Hodgeson 77 who were listed in fair condition. The attackers used a homemade blackjack and fled suspected to be in a car. Police tied the case to a spate of Quad Cities robberies.

County 4-H Leaders Study Tractor Safety Training

Eighteen Washington county 4-H leaders gathered at the Washington YMCA for a tractor safety and farm machinery color coding course. Chamber Retail Sales Committee Opens New Year
