A Des Moines three story Olympia Hotel fire killed five elderly men and forced many residents to flee. Victims named were Joe Ingersoll 69 Melvin Akllen 75 Orion Immel 62 Everett Dean Martin 75 and one unidentified man. In Northwood Iowa three children Roger 4 Barbara Fileen 8 and Sharon Kay 14 died in a farmhouse blaze.
