Decorah report notes 76 year old Miss Essa Asseln slipped on a freshly waxed floor at her brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs H Woldt home fracturing a bone in each ankle. It marks her seventeenth bone fracture to date.
John Pan ther of Sutherland posted a $7,000 bond for appeal to the state supreme court after District Judge O. S. Thomas sentenced him to 10 years in prison on a sodomy charge. The case was moved to Rock Rapids on change of venue.
An inquest is ordered in Long Beach California into the death of M. Christensen 64 a retired Cedar Falls farmer killed in an auto crash. Mr and Mrs P C Hansen and Lydia Hansen all of Cedar Falls were injured though not seriously. The party have been in California since early winter on vacation.
Chariton Lucas county reports the deaths of its last two Civil War veterans, William Humphreys aged 97 of Oakley and Robert Killen aged 97 from a farm near Norwood. Both died Saturday after brief illnesses. Humphreys served in the 111dth Ohio Infantry and Killen in the 17th Kentucky Infantry.
The Iowa Ministers assembly will be held March 3 and 4 at the University Church of Christ in Des Moines. Rev. Harry Shiffler says special speakers include Dr. Georgia Hartness of Garrett Biblical Institute and Dr. James Moffatt of New York, author of the Moffatt Bible translation. Pr. Jack Finegan of Ames will lead devotions.

Carl Dalfin senior executive of the Arnold Jewelry and Music Co in Ottumwa died at his home of a heart attack after shoveling snow with his younger son Roger. He collapsed soon after entering the house and lying down.
Iowa City University of Iowa will start a course in the Chemistry of Explosives in February. The eight semester hour program aims to prepare students for junior explosives inspector roles in the Army and Navy, per Professor George Glockler, head of the chemistry department.

Washington county faced heavy snowfall Saturday night through Sunday with drifting up to five or six feet on some side roads. Officials reported the storm as the heaviest in five years, with ten inches total in the area and crews from the state highway commission, county road departments, and street department clearing main routes. Rural carriers, pedestrians, and churchgoers found travel difficult as residents shoveled and walked to maintain access.
The Trinity Lutheran congregation in Washington marked ten years with anniversary services, though a foot of snow reduced attendance. Rev. Des Moines January 27 The senate appropriations committee prepared to begin work on the next biennium's appropriations bill. Drafts recommended by Governor George A Wilson and Comptroller Fred Porter were made available to the committee and other senators. The session is in its third week making this an unusually early start.
The legislature prepared to reintroduce the 60 percent tax bill after Governor Wilson withheld signature. Each house adopted a concurrent resolution requesting the measure be returned from the governor due to copying errors detected just before submission.
Roy White of Churdan struck two cows with his car last week. The animals died, and his vehicle suffered heavy damage. White sustained no injuries.
A house on the J. W. Mc Clelland farm near Wellston burned completely last Saturday night. The Banks family escaped in their night clothes with only a washing machine and a few chairs. Snow hindered firefighting and few neighbors could help. insurance covered the home and contents.
Governor Wilson's traffic safety commission urged a nine item plan including stricter brake testing laws, sealed-beam headlights as standard, restrictions on old tires, tighter pedestrian laws, bicycle licensing, more public school safety education, longer driver training, flexible speed zoning on primary roads, and blood tests for suspected intoxicated drivers.
Representative E. L. Stewart of Washington county was named by the speaker to serve on several committees in the current legislature session. He is listed for the state educational institutions agriculture appropriations departmental affairs pharmacy roads and highways social security schools and textbooks liquor control. A portion of this committee list was omitted in a Des Moines Journal story supplied by United Press last week.
Charles Kruckenberg of near Lytton retires after 59 years on the same farm. His son Ed will operate the place for him.
