Five dynamitings and incendiary fires marked the anthracite miners strike in Wyoming valley. Three houses damaged by bombs, three by rocks, and the engine house at a mine destroyed by fire. Miners working after the strike faced picket violence injuring Ed Daline.
A stray homing pigeon reportedly traced a path from Claremore Oklahoma through Arizona New Mexico and Texas and back to its nest by Thursday. The piece notes Fort Worth events including Amon Carter tickets for a Roosevelt ball and strong fundraising. Applications for government loans on corn stored in cribs are arriving quickly as farmers align with the federal corn hog reduction program. Only 40 0000 was appropriated by Congress and much is already used, risking exhaustion before all borrowers are served. County sealers Walter R. Brown Howard M. Stewart and Will Griffin have sealed corn for loans on about a half million bushels.
Charles R. Hearst of Cedar Falls was re elected president of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation at the state convention closing session. He defeated Allen B. Kline of Vinton for the office with a reported 64 to 289 vote tally among 100 voting delegates. The opposition cited plans to change the state setup and executive secretary dominance. Johnson and Richardson were reelected as vice president and women's committee head. New directors were Ed Hongington and J. J. Boatman. Delegates endorsed pro New Deal resolutions, backed AAA expansion, beef cattle inclusion, dairy reforms, and zoning on Bangs disease. They supported regulation of direct buying and cooperative marketing to address marketing challenges. They urged feasibility studies on cooperative packing plants and broader production-distribution reforms.
Funeral services for Garret S. Hall aged about 84 will be held Sunday at 2 PM at Wellman Methodist Church with Rev Thomas Osborn presiding. Burial will follow in Wellman cemetery. Hall died Friday at noon after a four year illness. He lived in Wellman fifteen years since retiring from a farm nine miles northwest of town. He was born March 28, 1850 in Passaic county Ohio. Survived by wife McIntire Hall predeceased, four children Laura Moffit, Mary Popham, Ora Hall, Acey Hall, Jesse Hall, Clay Hall and a sister Mrs W J Hakill.
Des Moines Iowa lawmakers adjourned until 10 am Monday The Senate approved an interim revenue measure raising hunting and fishing license fees by about 125 000 annually bringing total revenue from licenses to around 159 000 The bill supported by the fish and game commission and the state board of conservation aims to aid conservation agencies within a 25 year Iowa program It also approved a tuition reimbursement bill for state and government employee children attending out of district schools. other measures failed including a county treasurer bond change and a public services compensation bill
Dr. W. Hamilton of Grinnell presided in Washington yesterday and today as a substitute for Judge Beechly of Montezuma who is ill. Beechly is expected to return next Wednesday. No jury trial times have yet been set for this term.

Miss Helen McCleery, a teacher at Apston high school for one and a half years, will leave Washington in a week or two to join the Iowa City public schools. The promotion brings a larger school and higher salary as the second semester begins Monday, with her departure pending a replacement in Washington.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW post in Washington county will be instituted next Wednesday evening January 31 at the K C hall. Mrs Ann Haourahpo state president will preside, assisted by Mr Ue Jacobs. Local and visiting auxiliary officials from several posts expected. Ceremony at 8 15 pm with dancing to follow. Eligible women may sign charter applications by contacting local organizers.
Burlington edged Washington 33 to 27 on Washington floor after a rough first period. Burlington’s fast breaks and sharp shooting from Lee Williams and Schulty sparked an early 11 6 lead, while Cantoni and Woodford added Washington points as the Demons held on.
Two Washington teams toured Muscatine last night and were defeated. The junior college fell 33 to 19 to Muscatine junior college, while the Washington Y M C A lost 27 to 26 to the Iowa Pearls in overtime. The Y trailed early but tied the extra period before Muscatine edged ahead.
Burlington Y will visit to face the Washington Y in a basketball doubleheader Monday evening. The Burlington squad is undefeated this year and recently beat Wapello, a team that has twice defeated Washington MM. Co. The early game features Burlington freshmen and Cotter high school, with tips at seven and eight o’clock.
Charles Latehem attends St Ambrose College in Davenport and is home for a between semesters vacation. He arrived Thursday afternoon and must return by Tuesday morning.
Lt Governor N G Kraschel and Carlton Beb of Des Moines are charged in Ottumwa with 19 counts of conspiracy related to PWA funds. Beh faces a separate forgery count. Bonds set. trial urged soon. court defers arraignment until legislature adjourns. Governor Herring defends Kraschel’s actions on PWA work.
S. Wilson, chair of the Washington Savings and Loan association membership committee, said interest in the new organization is rising. Ninety buyers have subscribed for shares worth 80 000 with 4 600 down. The government matches every locally invested dollar, and larger subscriptions are expected once the charter is received and the association is ready to operate.
