Charles City educator P C Lapham announces candidacy for state superintendent of public instruction in June Republican primaries. He has led Charles City schools for 11 years and earlier served as superintendent in New Hampton Gilman and Cumberland during a 25 year career.
The $800 suit of Carl T. Tennis against E. A. Florine, begun in 1916, was dismissed following the death of Joseph P. Shoup. Shoup kept the case alive by filing an affidavit of merit each year, making it the county's oldest active docket entry.
Fort Dodge jurors hear a trial where defendant Fort Dodge-W. N. Golden of Marshall Missouri facing uttering a forged instrument. His attorney argues Golden cannot write. The jury must decide if he forged the check he cashed in a Fort Dodge department store last October.
Sioux City resident Leroy J Spinharney sues the city police officer Lyle K Shadduck and the National Surety Co for 6000 alleging injury from a bullet that ricocheted during a December chase of fleeing automobile thieves.
A 25 pound chunk of ice from the Missouri river was blasted from the river by dynamite aimed to jar Edward Davis from the water striking Mayor William Guilfoyle’s car. The mayor had just left the vehicle minutes earlier near the river bank.
Waterloo district court hears a suit to recover 78515 dollars on notes given by William Galloway of Waterloo. The action is brought by Join Rehnke attorney for W R Jameson a former Waterloo investment banker to whom the notes were issued.
About 115 residents gathered at the Christian church despite a blustery day to discuss turning renters into owners. Harry Fisher of Minburn chaired the meeting while Rev L G Ligutti of Granger represented the state tenancy committee.
W T. Deering told police he was robbed of $64, his watch and traveling bag while en route to Columbus to pick up his wife and newborn son. The holdup happened in a stalled car at the roadside during a snowstorm on the Lincoln highway.

Mrs Mary Lampert 64 died last night at 7 40 in Bellevue hospital Muscatine after failing health this fall. Born Mary Hartman in Fayetteville Illinois she grew up in Evansville Illinois and moved to Ainsworth after marrying Louis William Lampert in 1914. Survived by sons Lester and Louis both at home two sisters Mrs Louise Otten of St Louis and Kate Hartman. one sister Mrs Bertha Fostie of La Junta Colorado. two brothers and two sisters deceased.
Charles Vincent, who lost over 100 turkeys this winter, received a $300 check from Rock Island Produce Co to partially reimburse the poultry theft. The birds were taken from Vincent’s southeast of town by several youths. four have been sentenced, one awaits action. The settlement covers part of the loss from the thieves.
