Iowans React to Viet Cease Fire News Across State
Iowans from all parties greeted President Nixon's cease fire announcement with relief and cautious hope. Mrs Peggy Naughton of Sheldon, whose POW husband disappeared in 1967, voiced relief while noting the need to secure prisoners and missing men. Local families shared grief over losses, with Gov. Robert D. Ray and Sen. Dick Clark urging national healing and reflection as the state remembers 825 Iowa desertions and casualties in Vietnam by 1972.
