Barn Fire Destroys Sojka Farm Structure Near Washington
A large barn on the Raymond Sojka farm southwest of Washington was destroyed by fire discovered about 11 a.m. The blaze, of undetermined origin, consumed hay, pigs, sows, and a new mix mill. Firemen from Washington and Brighton aided, insurance will cover part of the loss, and wind remained light at the height of the fire. The landmark barn stood near the Sojka home along highway one about six miles from Washington.

Baltimore mother and three children found dead
In north Baltimore police found the bodies of 23 year old Mrs. Geraldine Taylor and her three children. The mother appeared to have been beaten to death. Children identified as Jacqueline 3 Curtis 14 months and Sandie 5. All bodies located in third floor bedrooms.

In Booneville, farmers and merchants bank holdup case, 21 year old Harry Waters pleaded guilty, admitting part in the crime and a $1,000 Polk City Savings Bank robbery. A second suspect, Raymond Messner, was arrested and held without plea. Loot recovered at an abandoned Dallas County farmhouse, with two guns found nearby.

Services set at First Lutheran Church Fairfield Eastburn joined the bank in 1939 as executive vice president and became president in 1941.
