Gillette assisted the family in contacting the Defense Department.
Washington report says Charles E. Wilson likely to win Senate approval as defense secretary with Armed Services Committee backing. Taft predicted quick confirmation, while aides Stevens and Talbot face Senate scrutiny over stock holdings in defense contractors.

Wayland business man Irvin E Boshart 58 died early this morning at 4 20. Funeral home in Columbus Junction will transfer the body to Wayland Sunday. Services tentatively set for Monday at Wayland Mennonite Church where he was a member. Survived by widow Grace Weaver, daughter Ruth Goldsmith of Alhambra California, stepdaughter Melvin Haveran, three brothers Clarence Arthur Ed and four sisters Edna Widmer Henry Yoder Albert Bohn Cart Bohn.
Richard King 15 killed his father Hubert King 45 when he returned home to a quarrel over drinking and abuse. Sheriff Morlan said homicide charges will be filed. Richard held in Albia county jail.
State representative Harry Ramseyer of Washington County has been named to several committees for the current legislative session. One officer and 86 enlisted men of the 65th Infantry Regiment Puerto Rico unit attached to the U S 3rd Division have been convicted by a court martial for conduct during October battle on the Central Front. One enlisted man faces charges. four were acquitted. Charges included misbehavior before the enemy and willful disobedience. Sentences ranged from six months to one year imprisonment.
Cedar Rapids report says George Duffy, 21, received 21 years after pleading guilty to second degree murder in the Oct 9 killing of James Hackman, 18, in a fight over Shirley Arnold, 18. Duffy sobbed with his mother as the judge ruled the shooting unpremeditated and not foolish. Shirley Arnold showed little emotion as the sentencing concluded.
Mr and Mrs Sam Boyd of near Ainsworth visited Washington for business. Mrs Boyd, who had surgery at Mercy hospital in Iowa City last week, returned to teaching duties in Crawfordsville this week.
The Agriculture Department reports U S corn in storage at 2,576,031,000 bushels on January 1 up nine percent from a year earlier and the third largest total in ten years. Farm stocks are the largest since 1950 and off farm stocks are also large. Oats 864,659,000 bushels barley 168,685,000 and sorghum grain 54,188,000 are listed in storage at the start of the year.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue asks for a suit to recover more than 486000 in unpaid taxes from gangster Frank Costello and his wife Loretta. A Justice Department spokesman said liens have been placed on Costello properties to block transfers. Costello is serving 18 months for contempt of Congress in Milan Michigan federal prison.
