Paris reports say Charles de Gaulle met with Paratroop Maj. Gen. Jacques Massu amid strikes in Algiers protesting Massu’s dismissal as civil and military commander. Massu’s Paris visit followed his removal and a plan for self-determination in Algeria, with De Gaulle declaring no opposition to his policy.
Wilson and Co. alleges a confidential source warned of further picket line riots at Wilson meatpacking plants in Albert Lea Minnesota and Cedar Rapids Iowa. Mrs Rosia Greiner 79 was found dead in her Keota home after a long life in Clear Creek. Funeral 9:30 am Monday at St Marys Catholic Church Keota with burial in Clear Creek Cemetery. Rosary services Sunday at Powell Funeral Home. Survivors include four sons three daughters twenty three grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Mrs Catherine M Tobin 80 of Rock Island Illinois died Thursday in Shady Lawn Rest Home She was mother of Mrs George Krogmeier of Washington Funeral services held this morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Rock Island Survivors include her son Donald a daughter Mrs Krogmeier five grandchildren and one great grandchild

Peter Haupert 81 of Keota died this morning at his home near Keota. Funeral arrangements are not yet set. He was born September 15, 1878 near Harper, married Sophia Klett June 5, 1906 at Sigourney. Survived by wife, six children and many grandchildren, with two sons and two daughters among survivors. He belonged to St. Marys Catholic Church in Keota.
Rudolph Schlichting 90, of a farm three miles east of Columbus Junction, died Friday afternoon from natural causes. Funeral service Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Church of God, burial in Indian Creek Cemetery. He was a former bank director, survived by son Thomas of Phoenix, three grandchildren, and sister Mrs. Nellie Kemp of Conesville.
The annual Washington YMCA membership enrollment opens with a Monday 7:30 a.m. meeting for captains and workers who will receive instructions and work kits. Enrollment runs January 25 through February 2.
