In Newark two men in a car robbed a Howard Savings Institution branch, sliding a shotgun at the cashier and leaving with 5000 from a small safe and 17000 from a drawer. Police report the men fled without exiting the vehicle.
Iowa delegation concerned about American prisoners of war in North Vietnam met Rune Nystroem of Sweden's foreign ministry who promised to forward letters from families. Six Iowans, led by Cedar Rapids Mayor Donald Cannon, planned to deliver messages via Paris contacts, bypassing Stockholm as talks had already occurred in Paris.
