Washington residents are invited to view prize winning news photographs from the 20th Inland Daily Press Association contest. The traveling display, brought by the Evening Journal from Fairborn Ohio, runs Monday through Friday 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm in the library’s upstairs exhibit hall.

In Des Moines a elementary school principal, Melvin E. Rexroat, 33, is charged with assault and battery over disciplining pupil La Mar Brandt, 9. A 16 year old Clinton youth threatened the life of a municipal court judge after being committed to the Iowa Training School at Eldora. Harold Kenworthy, 16, shouted that he would kill the judge when released as his companion Leonard Goettsch, 15, a parolee from Eldora, was arrested in a $650 Clinton burglary that netted $300 in U S Savings Bonds. Police recovered most cash and bonds after the pair discarded money on a Clinton golf course.
